Practical civil engineering services
Civil IQ provides practical civil engineering services for projects across Auckland. We plan and design civil works, earthworks, drainage and roading so construction runs to programme and meets council requirements. Our role is to coordinate with planners, architects and contractors, prepare clear documentation, and help reduce risk on site. Explore the services below, then talk to an engineer about your project.
Civil Works
Retaining and stabilisation
Concrete works
Kerbs and streetscapes
Small civils
Civil works that keep sites moving. We support retaining and stabilisation, concrete works, kerbs and streetscapes, and minor civils. Designs focus on levels, access, safety and constructability so contractors can deliver efficiently.
Earthworks
Bulk earthworks
Site cuts and fills
Haul routes
Erosion and sediment control
Bulk earthworks, site cuts and fills, platforms and haul routes with erosion and sediment control planned in. Designs consider material balance, staging and access to support safe delivery.
Drainage
Stormwater systems
Wastewater connections
Treatment devices
Levels and flow
Integrated drainage solutions across stormwater and wastewater. We address capacity, devices, levels and connections so assets perform and align with council standards.
Roading and Streetscapes
Accessways and parking
Pavements
Roading and streetscapes
Interfaces and safety
Accessways, parking, pavements and streetscapes designed to the required standards. Attention to levels, interfaces and safety so operations remain practical on site.
General Contracting and Light Civils
Civil IQ provide support for smaller civil projects and coordination across trades. Useful for tidy documentation and clear scopes that keep delivery on track.
We can help with:
- Small civils
- Site coordination
- Close out documentation
Civil Engineering FAQs
Which areas of Auckland do you service?
Civil IQ services all Auckland areas including the North Shore, Central Auckland, South Auckland, West Auckland and Rodney. Our team has local knowledge of council requirements, ground conditions, flood zones and construction standards across the region. This familiarity with Auckland’s infrastructure and consent processes helps us deliver efficient, compliant designs and faster approvals.
What does a civil engineer do on a construction project?
A civil engineer plans, designs and documents the infrastructure for your development, including drainage, earthworks, retaining, roading and concrete works. We prepare engineering drawings, calculate loads and flows, assess site conditions and ensure designs meet council requirements. Our role is to coordinate with planners, architects and contractors, prepare clear documentation, and provide producer statements for consent approval so construction teams can build safely and efficiently.
When should a civil engineer be engaged in a project?
Engage a civil engineer at the planning stage, before resource or building consent lodgement. Early input helps identify site constraints such as drainage capacity, ground stability, access requirements and existing services so design decisions are made with full information. This approach reduces costly changes later, supports faster consent approvals and keeps projects on programme.
Does Civil IQ provide both design and construction services?
Yes. Civil IQ offers integrated civil engineering and construction services. Our team designs your civil works, prepares consent documentation, and can deliver the physical construction through our contracting division. This design-to-build approach reduces coordination risks, speeds up delivery, and provides clear accountability from concept through to completion. Clients benefit from consistent quality, fewer variations and a single point of contact throughout the project.
What is the difference between a civil engineer and a contractor?
Civil engineers design and document how infrastructure will be built to meet safety, performance and consent standards. Contractors carry out the physical construction on site based on those designs. Civil IQ provides both services – we design your civil works and can also deliver the construction through our contracting team. This integrated approach means better coordination, fewer variations and a single point of contact from design.
What is a producer statement and when do I need one?
Producer statements are professional certifications required by Auckland Council for most developments. A PS1 (design) confirms your design meets the Building Code and consent conditions. A PS3 certifies construction supervision has been provided. A PS4 certifies completed works comply with approved plans. As chartered professional engineers (CPEng), we issue these statements to support your consent lodgement and code compliance certification process.
